Hardknott Code Black: black IPA 5.6%

Initial taste is very strong and mellows very quickly after the 2nd mouthful.

Chocolate.

Dry spice.

Perfect sweetness.

Aftertaste gets darker.

Didn’t notice the citron at first, a subtle, dry but sharp fruit aspect.

Nothing to fault.

Genuinely rich.

Smooth Cream.

Brandy.

Lots of flavours.

Still tastes like an ale even though there’s all the tastes going on.

A Belgian thing going on later in the glass, a bit Orval even.

Looks great; red grey dark opaque.

Flavour/strength becomes ‘soaring’ again.

Big but very moreish.

I did this. You should be able to tell because the photo’s too good for Dave.

Not tried this yet – but from what you’ve said, Dave’s brewed another one of his big, big beers!
